ABOUT ME

What are your hobbies?
I snowboard with my husband and daughter.  I also love to read.  I wish I had more time to do that.

So what are some of your favorite books?
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin is my favorite book of all time, although I love any Jane Austin book. Usually I stick to classic fiction works. I am also a big fan of the Harry Potter series.

What T.V. shows do you like to watch?
I love the show Wipeout.  I also love Top Gear and I cannot miss an episode of Top Chef.

What are you favorite movies?
I like science fiction a lot and I love the movie The Fifth Element and, of course, Star Wars. I also like classic (old) movies. My favorites include: The Manchurian Candidate, The Searchers, Stagecoach, Roman Holiday, and Sabrina.

Do you play video games?
Yes, and no I won't tell you my gamertag.

Where did you go to school?
I went to Placerita Junior High and Hart High School. I graduated from CSUN with a degree in History and continued there for my teaching credential.

MY CLASS STRUCTURE

Do you accept late work?
Yes, I will accept late work for a unit up until the unit test. All late work will receive a 30% penalty, meaning an assignment graded at 90% and turned in late will receive a final grade of 60% in the grade book.

Is there extra credit in your class?
From time to time there will be extra credit opportunities.

What is your main form of communication?
Email. I check my email every day, and I will communicate through telephone or in person as the situation warrants.

What is your policy on plagiarism?
Plagiarism is cheating!  Copying the work of another student in any way or submitting work that is not your own will not be tolerated.  This also means no changing another person's work with just a few new words.  This is still plagiarism.  Every year students forget to do a homework assignment or did not have time to complete an assignment because of extracurricular obligations.  Using someone else's work to complete your own is not the answer!  Please talk to me about the reasons for not completing an assignment, the sooner the better.  I am the one who has ultimate control over assignments and due dates, a legitimate reason may warrant you more time to complete an assignment.  That is much better than the consequences of cheating.

THE WEBSITE

Why a website?
The world is going the direction of technological advancement and teachers need to keep a stride with that. The Internet is a great tool that should be utilized in the classroom and can help on the communication front between parent, student, and teacher. A website allows for all parties to stay up to date with the on goings of the class.

I’m a parent, what is on the site for me?
There is an entire section of the website dedicated to parents. In the ‘For Parents’ section parents will find links to useful websites, such as the Hart District webpage, the California state standards for history, and others. Also, parents can access their child’s grades and view the agendas for the week to stay updated on what the class is doing, as well as their child’s progress in the class.

I’m a student, what’s on the site for me?
This site was designed as a tool to keep students current on all things related to the class. Absent students can stay up to date on what was done in class and what homework they have missed. Forgot to update your INB’s table of contents? No problem, it’s on the website. A while ago you missed some assignment and you have no idea where the handout is now but you would really like to turn in the assignment. Go to the ‘Agenda Archives’ section. Your dog ate your homework? Print out a new copy to complete. It’s all here for you guys, plus links to cool and valuable resources.

How do I view/print assignments?
All class assignments and homework that is posted on the website is in PDF form. When you click on an assignment it will open the PDF in a new window. In this new browser window there is a tool bar. From here you may print the handout or download it to your computer. You will need to have Adobe Reader installed on your computer in order to view the files. This can be downloaded for free by clicking here.

How often do you update grades on the website?
I try to update grades every two weeks.

I forgot my login for the website.  What do I do?
Your username is your school I.D. and matches your school login.  Your password is originally set as your birthday, so if your birthday was January 8, 1997 your password would be: 010897.  If you have not changed your password, this is your login.  You may change your name, email address, and password in 'Edit User Information.'  Remember, this login is in no way tied to your school login.  If you change a password for your school login, it will not change your login to this site.  If you need a password reset please email me and I will reset it as quickly as I can.

Should I change my name in the User Preferences section?
Only if you have a nickname or other name that I call you in class.  I will be offering extra credit for answering polls on the site.  If you choose to make a silly or inappropriate name you will receive no credit and I will block you from the website.
